Some years ago we did some hiking on Miller Peninsula but not since it became a park in 2005. Why did we wait so long? The 28,000 acre park is near to where we live and offers more than 20 miles of hiking trails. Yesterday we chose the Fireweed Road Beach Trail. A six mile, easy walk, through second growth forest with remnants of old-growth, lush ferns, numerous rhododendrons and even manzanita.

The trail ends at a secluded beach with views of Protection Island and Discovery Bay.

The bay is a favorite for locals who like to fish.
