We live in Port Townsend, a victorian seaport known not only for its amazing scenery and old victorian buildings but also for its deer. Loved by many, disliked by some, they roam the beaches, streets and yards. We have several small herds that frequent our little patch of woods. Some come for water from the pond, some to nibble on nearly every plant they see and some to simply relax in the grass.
Sometimes we see three generations hanging together. This little doe was a fawn last spring. I snapped this photo a couple weeks ago when the morning sun was peeking through the trees, illuminating her.
I was going to paint her entirely but Larry suggested, “perhaps her face was more interesting than her butt.” So much to learn, I’m grateful to have his suggestions and support! Thinking as a painter and as a photographer is quite different, stretching my mind in a different direction. Larry says it gets easier after the first 1,000 paintings! HA!
Thanks for reading and for your continued support of artists like me.
